Prologue Part 3: Geography

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

The third and final prologue.

As of May 6, this podcast will begin updating regularly on Tuesday night with one episode per week. The aim is to have the podcast available every Wednesday.

This is the driest of the prologues, and provides a loose set of details about the major areas in Book 1 of the story. When the Northern Archipelago is required in future books, one future “introduction” episode may be added to the schedule.

For the time being, I am considering this test-run of equipment and techniques a fairly successful one.
I am also pleased to see the correlation between the number of pages written and the length of this podcast: This episode runs for 11 minutes and 48 seconds. 30 seconds of that are introduction, and two more at the end are blank space.

I will be adding to the site, but not posting any more of the story until its scheduled time next week. Until then, please enjoy.

Prologue #2 - The First of Days

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

Prologue #2 comes from my notes on the world as a whole. It tells the story of three basic elemental deities who learned to divide themselves. Everything in the Nightshine Islands can be traced back to at least one of the three gods through their actions (known as fingers) and their intent (the hands or the heart).

Most simply, each deity exists in three basic states - the right hand (supremely unselfish), the heart (viewing the world as a tool neither good nor evil) and the left hand (supremely selfish). Each form can then exist in as many other ways that suits the ends of the whole.

Please forgive my voice in this episode. I have spent the last few days wrestling against some unexpected sickness.

Prologue #1

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Consider this an all-around test run. I am no stranger to podcasting, nor to writing fiction / fantasy fiction. Back in the 90s, I even ran a weekly webcomic.

So why a test run? In order to make sure that every podcast sounds roughly the same, I will want to record them in roughly the same way — as close as possible — then run all of the bumper music and actual story through the same chain of effects as every other episode.

Also, I am working on a new computer than the one I had previously podcasted with. Some software needed to be re-installed. Most of it is now in a newer version than those early days. The theme of this podcast is entirely different as well. The first (which got me a shirt from Podcast.net) was more of a musical nature.

So, onto this podcast. This is a part of my character sketch for Kranack. Kranack’s homeland is populated by three reptilian races. At the time I had written his sketch, those races had no names, so I simply called them by the colors of their skin.

Of all the characters I have written so far, Kranack has been the most fun.
